Frequently Asked Questions
Why is ground school necessary?
While flight training teaches you the “how” of aviation, ground school teaches you the “why” — you learn why things work and why processes are in place in order to support your learning how to actually fly an airplane. It is easy to be excited about getting your hands on the stick, but we can help you look forward to the academic-learning side as well!
How much does it cost?
Ground school is measured by the 1/10th hour, at a rate of $50/hour. There is no FAA-mandated minimum requirement for ground school, and there is no max limit to how many classes you can take. However, a least 1 two-hour lesson per week is recommended to stay on target.
Will you teach me everything I need to know?
I’ll be happy to! Some students also supplement instructor-led ground school with a test prep program, like Gleim. This way, an instructor provides structure to reinforce your learning and answer your questions during ground school classes, and you can chew on Gleim’s flat-fee test questions in your free time. In other words, you aren’t getting lost in the information, and we can help you stay on track for your goals.
Do I need any equipment in order to learn?
The majority of content is understanding-based, but some topics do require some equipment for hands-on learning. Depending on the topic, a regular calculator is recommended (but not required), and a navigational plotter and an E6B Flight Computer are mandatory.
